VOLUNTEER WORK FOR CANCER SURVIVORS

Next one will be help in Manhattan on Tuesday, November 14.

Please get in touch via “contact” and write “cancer” on the subject line

Liza Andrews from PictureCure and Anacelia Santiago from More Than Breasts have been doing voluneteer work for cancer survivors for years. Since they met in New York, they’ve combined their complementary skills to offer a full restorative experience:

A workshop to help breast cancer survivors regain their confidence and rejoin their romantic and professional lives. As well as the actual paramedical micropigmentation of areolas and scars for women who had breast reconstruction.

The fear of dying, followed but the mutilation of a body part that defines femininity can be crippling. Boosting self-esteem and showing breast cancer survivors new ways to love their bodies is vital to their mental health and believed to strenghten their immune systems.

Liza and Ana assist mostly immigrants. Many who don’t speak fluent English and also see in their help a cultural, familiar embrace. Despite having no sponsors, they offer their time and expertise in New York, once a month or upon request.

Reinvention and high self-esteem bring hope, self acceptance and allow these women the opportunity of feeling whole again.

More Lives Positively Impacted by this Work

There is no joy like seeing these women’s faces after the procedure. After so long without their nipples, having that part of themselves they considered lost somehow back to place is like being reborn.

Chronic weight issues may also affect the mind and lead to depression. We eventually help isolated cases out of the cancer survivor scope as probono. After the self-esteem workshop, Gislaine Murgia abandoned the candies and chocolate bars she hid under the bed to manage moments of daily sadness and anxiety. She found a part of herself who deserved to be loved, went through a deep detox diet, started exercising and in 8 months, had reinvented herself as a happier, healthier woman.

WORKSHOP: How Far You Can Improve Your Self-Esteem and Confidence with a 6-Step Reinvention Process

  1. Goal-Setting for your step-by-step success: Through a guided, heartfelt conversation, we'll help you decide how you would like to transform your physical, mental and spiritual well-being. Once we understand your goals —self-discovery, personal style update, dating, weight loss, self-esteem boast, or a combination of these and other things —we will create a customized program and support you in achieving your goals. Following the plan will also help you understand how to handle "bad days," and what is necessary each day/week/month to achieve the greater goals.

  2. Psychological support: Our inner critic and low self-esteem are the greatest villains for both success and reinvention. We'll teach you audio and video techniques that will promote self-knowledge, comfort and cultivate your self-love.

  3. Body Mapping: We study images (photos) of your body and face and show you how to highlight your strong features and downplay the ones you’re not too crazy about.

  4. Becoming Photogenic: This step includes our signature workshop on “How to become photogenic.” After Body Mapping, you will engage in exercises to learn the best poses and expressions for you photographically.

  5. Experimenting and Curating: With a light touch, we guide you through a journey of self-discovery and self-improvement, trying new makeup, hairstyles, outfits, and accessories. It’s a fun experience where you’ll discover new facets of yourself and, perhaps, even a new persona! No need to buy anything. We'll show you how to test drive styles at no cost.

  6. Inspirational Photos: Now, ready and confident, we’ll guide you through a production setup for you to photograph yourself in your favorite outfits and photo styles (casual, classic, glamour, artistic, sensual, etc.) This is the “birth” of the reinvented you, and those photos will serve as inspiration to help you continue forward on your self-improvement path.

Questions About Micropigmentation

The 3-D Technique is extremely realistic. Colors and size will be planned according to your skin tone and using the other areola (if existing) as reference. Before the sessions, you undergo a detailed conversation with the specialist.
